Philanthropist is turned by amazon chief Jeff Bezos: Donates this much to help the homeless.
Jeff Bezos, the second wealthiest person in the world, recently donated $98.5 million to helping the homeless. The grant was awarded to 32 organizations in the billionaires’ Day One Fund, early this week and the same has been announced by Jeff Bezos himself. The contribution is the second on the line of the Bezos Day One Families Fund leadership awards that aims at combating homelessness and providing quality instruction in low income communities. The fund had awarded $97.5 million in grants to 24 organizations throughout the country, annually.
Jeff Bezos had perpetrated a $2 billion fund for the purposes of social welfare. The finance is equally split between the Day One Families Fund which aims at helping homeless families and also the Day One Academies Fund, that expects to create a’network of fresh, non-profit, tier-one preschools in low-income communities,”’ Jeff Bezos said in the time of launching it. The company had declared the funds at a vital time when it was facing backlash to get Amazon’s HQ2 decision last year as many criticised displacement of affordable housing in the locations that the e-commerce behemoth picked because of its expansion plans.
Amazon has also been on the receiving end of flak. A labour union has alleged that the transfer will cost tens of thousands of jobs as Amazon plans to enlarge its cashierless stores. ‘Amazon has just one agenda – to remove as many jobs as possible to enrich one multi-billionaire.
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has a net worth of world’s richest person and Microsoft founder Bill Gates’ fortunes of about $109 billion, a little shy, according to Bloomberg Billionaire Index on Saturday. Jeff Bezos was dethroned as the world’s most wealthy man by Bill Gates.
